EL MUSSOL: Night-time care servicesfor people with drug addiction in a situation of social exclusion (Valencia)
The “El Mussol” Night Centre is a programme for homeless people over the age of 18 who are in a situation of social exclusion, with associated problems of alcohol or drug use and/or mental health, and who, despite needing it, cannot access the regular network of shelters available in the city of Valencia.
It sets out the following specific objectives:
- To make it possible to meet the basic needs (food, hygiene, rest, etc.) of one of the most vulnerable groups in the city of Valencia.
- To promote the access and retention of service users in the regular social and health care network, in both general and specific services, with special attention to the groups that have the greatest difficulty accessing these services.
- To promote specific intervention strategies that enable processes of change and facilitate personal stabilisation and social inclusion, reducing the negative consequences that the lack of continuous care has on people in a situation of social exclusion.
- To provide a point of reference during night-time hours.
- To maintain adherence to pharmacological treatments (HIV, HCV, TB, mental health) by providing a safe place to store and supervise daily medication intake on an ongoing basis.
This centre was created to complement other resources, including the C.I.B.E. de Valencia and is coordinated with the C.A.S.T. (Homeless Care Centre), hospitals and SAUS (Social Emergencies), among others.
