Low Threshold Intervention Centre
for people with drug addiction (Valencia)

It is a service for active drug users that works to reduce the harm associated with drug use. It offers food, hygiene, clothing bank and laundry services, as well as medical, social work and psychological care. It is subsidised annually by the Conselleria de Sanidad de la Generalitat Valenciana, and is supported by the Conselleria de Inclusión Social de la Generalitat Valenciana, the Diputació de València, and Valencia City Council. FSC launched it more than 17 years ago.

The basic objectives of this service are to adapt to the changing needs of the group we serve from a harm reduction perspective for drug and alcohol users in social exclusion, and to maintain the services provided on the premises. At the same time, it will continue to provide immediate care from a mobile unit that visits the main drug dealing and drug use areas of the city of Valencia.

This service has been in contact with more than 8,000 different identified people, as well as with many others who make intermittent and anonymous use of several of its services. It assists an average of more than 125 people every day, who use the various services provided at the Centre.

The main achievement of our intervention in recent years has been to remain the most important service in the Valencian Community in terms of the number of interventions and people assisted, as well as improving the quality of the interventions and services provided. At the same time, particular importance is given to the gender perspective and, given the special circumstances of the women we assist, a specific care programme for women who use drugs has been launched.
