SA@C - Behavioural Addictions Care Service(Barcelona)

The Behavioural Addictions Care Service is a project aimed at restoring the healthy use of the addictive activity or behaviour (or its cessation, in the case of pathological gambling), regaining control and interest in other activities or motivations until the full recovery of the family, work, school and social life of the affected person.

A Behavioural Addiction is understood as any rewarding behaviour or activity that becomes the person’s priority need and interferes with the development of other previously habitual practices, becoming their only source of motivation and causing serious deterioration in the life of the affected person. Recognised behavioural addictions include gambling addiction and addiction to some new technologies; compulsive shopping or lack of control over sexual impulses, among others, are excessive behaviours that can also be interpreted from this addictive perspective.

We have a multidisciplinary team with a gender perspective, made up of psychologists, a psychiatrist and social educators, and a care network that enables us to design individualised treatments to better respond to the people we support.

Who is it for?

All people, and their families, who engage in the abusive or addictive practice of any activity that causes significant distress, with social, personal, work/training or economic consequences.

What are its objectives?

  • To raise awareness and motivation for change.
  • To work on the need created by the behaviour or activity, building on the person’s resources.
  • To establish responsible practice of the problem behaviour through the acquisition of tools and skills.
  • In pathological gambling, the objective is to eliminate the behaviour and work on possible relapses for the full recovery of the patient’s life.
