Residential Exclusion Prevention Servicein the District of Vicálvaro (Madrid)(Ended in 2022)

This is a set of social intervention and support services to prevent residential exclusion. It includes the management of shared housing and dealing with housing emergencies in the District of Vicálvaro (Madrid). The service is funded by the Empresa Municipal de la Vivienda y Suelo de Madrid, and its objective is to provide specific housing guidance (applications for public housing, rental assistance, searching for housing on the open market, searching for a place in housing resources, social utility bonus…) as well as social support and legal advice in the face of imminent loss of housing (eviction orders, enforced evictions, termination of rental contracts, illegal occupations, non-payment of monthly rent and/or mortgage arrears…).

When these actions are not enough, the service has six rented homes in the same district of Vicálvaro, offering two distinct intervention programmes:

  • Residential Emergency Programme: Three homes for families, for individual use. Family units that, due to a sudden change in their financial situation, can prove that they are unable to pay their rent or mortgage and are facing imminent loss of their home. Intensive, temporary socio-educational intervention is carried out with all the families housed.
  • Shared Housing Programme: Three homes for people and/or families with an optimal level of employability, which allows them to work on and strengthen their autonomy, starting from a situation of residential vulnerability due to the loss or precariousness of their housing, and who need intensive social intervention and socio-legal support.

In both programmes, the stay is temporary and is always subject to compliance with an Individual Intervention Plan drawn up by the multidisciplinary team of professionals and the person living in the home.

When the families and/or individuals leave FSC’s homes, an alternative housing solution is guaranteed, as well as the financial assistance needed for the initial costs required to rent a home on the open market.

Achieving decent, suitable and stable housing, as well as enabling the people assisted to look after it and maintain it over time, is the main objective of each of the interventions carried out by the multidisciplinary team of professionals.
