Information and Support Servicefor Women in Gavà (SIAD)

The Information and Support Service for Women in Gavà is a point of reference for the women of Gavà and provides specialised assistance to meet their needs and demands on an individual, group and community basis. It is a street-level service that provides first-hand knowledge of women’s situation, which makes it an effective tool for tackling inequalities. The SIAD therefore acts as:

  • A meeting point for women, with spaces for training, awareness-raising and free access to new technologies, and a documentation centre.
  • A reference centre for equality policies aimed at the women and men of the municipality, and at organisations and groups working for equity in the city.
  • A specialised support service for women experiencing gender violence.
  • A point of information, advice and comprehensive care for women.
  • A free and confidential service, offering legal and psychological support.

Objectives

To improve the quality of life of women citizens, make their experiences and knowledge visible and contribute to eradicating situations of discrimination and gender violence, fostering women’s processes of awareness and autonomy. In addition to individual work with women, the SIAD carries out professional coordination, community work and networking:

  • To launch awareness-raising actions with the associative movement in order to achieve, through raising awareness of gender discrimination, a city free from gender violence.
  • To strengthen interprofessional networking and coordination with the other support services in the local circuit against gender violence, coordination with the SIE or other supra-local bodies, etc.
  • To work together with the administration and the educational community to develop the City Educational Project of Gavà City Council.

Target population

The service is aimed at the women of Gavà, at professionals from other services and, in general, at anyone who needs to know about the resources available to resolve problems linked to discrimination, gender violence, social and labour inclusion, etc.
