Comprehensive Centre for Older People (CIM) in Altea
Within the framework of dependency prevention and the promotion of active ageing, the Comprehensive Centre for Older People of Altea, which is owned by the Town Council of that municipality, carries out actions which, from a preventive approach, promote the acquisition of attitudes, knowledge and skills that make it possible to optimise the health of older people and their physical and mental capacities, as well as to achieve an adequate level of interaction and development in their environment.
The beneficiaries of this resource are people registered as residents in the municipality of Altea who meet the following requirements:
- Being aged 60 or over or, if under 60, being retired or a pensioner, provided they are at least 50 years old.
- Not suffering from infectious or contagious diseases or psychopathies.
- Exceptionally, people who do not meet the requirements to be service users but wish to use its services occasionally for social, family and/or health reasons, provided that places are available and prior approval has been obtained from the centre’s Coordinator and, where appropriate, from Altea Town Council. However, they will be considered “Non-members” for the purposes of fees and use of the various services.
The general objectives pursued by this service are:
- To promote the acquisition of attitudes, knowledge and skills that optimise the health of older people.
- To foster a positive experience of old age in all dimensions of the person.
- To make older people visible as active individuals who participate and are involved in their own well-being and that of the community.
The CIM is part of an intervention model that puts into practice innovative approaches in the field of ageing based on promoting the rights of service users:
- Active ageing.
- Person-centred care.
- Socio-cultural engagement.
- Social participation and empowerment.
In order to meet the needs of older people, various actions are carried out, classified into the following six areas of intervention:
- Preventive Rehabilitation Area.
- Health Habits Information and Training Area.
- Physical Activity and Sports Area.
- Occupational Therapy, Cognitive Stimulation and Social Skills Area.
