Centre for people experiencing homelessness"El Carme" (Valencia)

The “El Carme” Centre for homeless people is a municipally owned resource that has been managed since April 2021 by Fundación Salud y Comunidad. Its purpose is to provide accommodation with social support for homeless people and people in situations of severe social exclusion. The centre’s objectives are to provide overnight accommodation, breakfast and dinner; to reduce isolation and personal uprooting; and to reduce the impact of situations triggered by an unforeseen, urgent event.

The centre has 10 places, 8 for men and 2 for women, increased to 12 at certain times due to special circumstances or very adverse weather conditions, disasters or social emergencies. Particular attention is paid to situations involving greater vulnerability, such as the combination of housing exclusion with addictive or mental health disorders, from an inclusive, harm-reduction perspective.

People are cared for by a multidisciplinary team made up of a coordinator, social workers, a psychologist, a nurse, social integration workers and administrative staff.

Services offered:

  • Basic services: accommodation, food, hygiene and the possibility of staying with pets.
  • Social care and support services: including specialised psychological and social care, assistance with administrative procedures, mediation in the search for alternative accommodation, and safekeeping and administration of medication.

All of this is delivered through the following programmes:

  • Reception programme.
  • Individual and group intervention programme.
  • Emergency care programme

Opening hours are from 4.30 pm to 9 am (until 10 am at weekends and on public holidays).

Places are accessed through the CAST (Centro Municipal de Atención a Personas Sin Techo), located at C/ Jardines, 3, Valencia (opposite the El Carme centre).
