Therapeutic Community"Can Coll"

The “Can Coll” Therapeutic Community is a professional care facility whose main objective is the cessation of use, treatment and social reintegration of people with dependence on alcohol, cocaine and new consumption patterns (synthetic drugs, etc.) through a programme of therapeutic and occupational activities that was a pioneer in Spain.

It has capacity for 34 people of both sexes. In coordination with service users’ families and with the care resources in their area, it has served 109 people over the last year. Most places are partially subsidised by the Departament de Benestar Social i Família of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The centre has been operating for more than eighteen years, with constant development and optimisation of its activity programme, ongoing improvement and training of its professional team (psychiatrist, psychotherapists, social educators and support workers) and continuous renovation of its facilities.

The care programme is structured in four phases. The first two involve no outings; the third phase (from the fourth month of treatment) consists of gradual outings from the centre to the person’s future place of residence; and in the fourth phase (the sixth and seventh months) longer outings take place to facilitate access to reintegration activities.

Target population:
  • People with alcohol and/or cocaine dependence who have already made several attempts at outpatient treatment without managing to maintain abstinence on an ongoing basis.
  • People with alcohol and/or cocaine dependence who lack sufficient containment to undergo outpatient treatment.
