Municipal EmergencyReception Centre

This is an emergency residential service for women experiencing gender violence and for their children. Its main function is to provide them with a space for reflection and temporary support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Barcelona City Council is the institution that owns the centre.

Improving the reception of women in emergency situations due to gender violence requires a specific, transitional emergency service that makes it possible to establish a joint work plan between the women and other centres in the municipal network of care for women. The centre provides short-term stays.

The centre's main objectives are:
  • To create a supportive context for women and their children within a violence-free space based on dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, offering safety, respite and optimal support so that women can reflect on their situation and on the possible alternatives and decisions to be taken.
  • To cover the basic needs of women and their children.
  • To support women in the process of explaining to their children the situation they are in and why they are staying in the service.
  • To provide educational and psychological care and emotional containment throughout the stay in the service.
  • To complement the interventions carried out by the Care, Recovery and Reception Service (SARA).
  • To continuously complement the initial exploration, assessment and guidance process carried out by SARA, generating a single, integrated file per family unit or woman.
