"CAM Sopuerta" care centre for unaccompanied migrant minors

The “CAM Sopuerta” care centre for unaccompanied migrant minors is a residential care resource focused on their emancipation, located in the municipality of Sopuerta, Bizkaia. It cares for a total of 36 male young people and adolescents in the protection system of the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia (DFB), who are distributed across different care units. This residential care centre therefore has the status of a comprehensive care facility of an educational nature for minors under the care and/or guardianship of the aforementioned DFB who are deprived of a suitable family environment, and whose length of stay depends on what is determined in the administrative decision that led to their admission.

The service has a large professional team made up of various professional profiles, in which the educational team is the largest group, and it is characterised by an intervention geared towards the social and labour inclusion of the adolescents based on individualised planning for each case, with a methodology based on the pedagogy of everyday life, complemented by a diverse range of action programmes aimed at normalisation, overall development and positive social integration into the community. In this way, and from an individualised perspective for each case, reflected in the planning and implementation of the P.E.I. (Individual Educational Project), the aim is to promote the fullest possible development and personal growth of the young people and adolescents, aged between 13 and 17, in the main dimensions, such as intellectual, emotional, social and health, including an approach to diversity from an inclusive perspective.

In short, the socio-educational nature of the resource defines it as a facility that combines educational care with the social and labour inclusion of the young people and adolescents, fostering appropriate personal autonomy for their forthcoming emancipation.
