Awareness-raising project on prostitution and trafficking in women for the purpose of sexual exploitation

This project was created as a tool for raising awareness and understanding of the reality surrounding prostitution and trafficking in human beings (TSH) for the purpose of sexual exploitation among adolescents aged between 13 and 18.

Awareness-raising workshops on this subject are held in secondary schools and educational centres in Castellón de la Plana, for students in their fourth year of secondary education (ESO), upper secondary education (Bachillerato) and vocational training courses.

The objectives of the project are:

  • To raise awareness of the reality of TSH and prostitution.
  • To reduce the social stigma associated with women in prostitution by making visible the reality they face.
  • To generate critical thinking about the consequences of the commodification of sexuality as contrary to the achievement of egalitarian relationships between men and women.

This project has been under way since 2021 thanks to the initiative of Castellón City Council.

In 2021, 667 students took part.

Among its achievements, we would highlight:

  • This programme is a pioneering one, being the first programme in the province of Castellón to address awareness-raising on Trafficking in Human Beings and prostitution with students in secondary schools.
  • Interest and uptake among secondary schools in the city of Castellón de la Plana have been high, to the point of generating a waiting list for future editions.
  • The satisfaction shown by teaching staff with the sessions has been high, and they have stressed the importance of holding these sessions.
  • The satisfaction shown by students has been very high, with a score of 4.1 out of 5.
  • In 100% of the schools, there has been an increase in awareness of the subject.
  • The impact of the programme shows an 18.30% increase in awareness among participants.
  • The participation during the sessions has been high; students asked questions and showed great interest in the subject.
