Specialised Intervention Service (SIE)in Tarragona

The Specialised Intervention Service (SIE) for victims of gender violence in Tarragona is a public service of the Department of Equality and Feminisms of the Generalitat de Catalunya, managed by FSC since April 2009, which provides comprehensive care and resources for the recovery process of women who have suffered or are suffering gender violence, as well as their daughters and sons.

The centre’s main objective is to provide information, care and recovery to these people, as well as to promote specific prevention, assistance and community awareness programmes.

Over the last year the centre has served more than 260 people, 192 of them women and 70 minors, from the six counties of Tarragona.

The main activities carried out by the centre are:
  • Responding to women's requests in order to support them in decision-making and in starting their recovery process, assessing whether they should be referred to other resources (shelter, healthcare, employment inclusion, etc.).
  • Bio-psycho-social recovery programmes focused on recovering from the harm caused by the different situations of violence.
  • A therapeutic space for the children of women in the recovery process.
  • Coordination with all the services that make up the care and recovery network for women experiencing violence in order to guarantee the recovery process, offering collaboration, information and advice.
  • Individual follow-up of cases requiring specific referrals.
  • Participating in, collaborating on and promoting community initiatives for the prevention of violence against women and awareness-raising about it. Collaboration with local institutions.
  • Specific interventions in emergency care and shelter services.
  • Assessing and proposing access to other specific services of the “Secretaria de Polítiques Familiars i Drets de Ciutadania” where regulations allow.
