PID: Drug Addiction Intervention Programmeat Lledoners Prison (Barcelona)
The Drug Addiction Intervention Programme (PID) is a programme managed by Fundación Salud y Comunidad (FSC), which began in 1989 at the Barcelona Men’s Prison “La Modelo” and, since 2017, has been carried out at Lledoners Prison. It is funded by the Departament de Salut of the Generalitat de Catalunya and is a recognised resource integrated into the XAD (Drug Addiction Care Network of Catalonia).
It is a flexible programme, implemented across the different residential units of the prison, which seeks to respond to each person’s particular needs. It is designed from a community-based approach and uses participatory methodologies.
The general objective of the programme is to energise, in a cross-cutting way, the different residential units of Lledoners Prison, developing strategies aimed at improving the care, prevention and treatment of drug addiction within the prison institution.
The specific objectives are:
- To foster independence from drugs and to reduce the harm resulting from drug use.
- To promote the acquisition and maintenance of health-care habits.
- To reduce the level of conflict and violence within and between groups, improving coexistence in the centre.
- To foster participation and involvement in the activities offered at the prison.
- To foster participation and the establishment of links with the network of community social resources and programmes already in place.
To achieve these objectives, we will work along the following lines:
| Health | Prevention and management of cannabis abuse | Overdose prevention | Addressing violence |
| Promoting access to the community | Continuity group | Special events | Intervention with inmates classified in first grade (DERT) |
