Hepatitis C MobileScreening Unit (Valencia)

It is a mobile service for screening infectious diseases among people in social exclusion, operating in the city of Valencia and its metropolitan area. It has the support of Abbvie laboratories and of the various infectious disease units of the city of Valencia and its metropolitan area.

This initiative carries out its activity through methods that help eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health problem, including reducing new infections of this type by 90% and deaths due to viral hepatitis by 65%, the goal set by the WHO for 2030.

This programme, launched in 2020, is carried out by a team of social and health professionals in a mobile unit.  The unit has rapid tests for HIV, HBV, HCV and syphilis, as well as a test to detect HCV viral load. We also have a range of materials for prevention and harm reduction.

The aim is to bring testing as close as possible to people who are distant from the health system (active drug users, homeless people, undocumented migrants, residents of informal settlements, etc.), facilitating both testing and subsequent treatment and follow-up, through support and coordination with the various services involved.
