"Mirades Mirall": Working group in addiction treatment centres to strengthen family support in the reintegration process (Barcelona)
“Mirades Mirall” is a space that offers support and advice to families and significant others of people in treatment for any type of addiction. This programme is run at the Psychotherapeutic Care Services (SAP) of Fundación Salud y Comunidad , a space specialising in the treatment of substance abuse and behavioural addictions, with the support of the Department of Social Rights and Inclusion of the Generalitat de Catalunya through the ordinary call for grants (CONVO).
The programme offers family support groups, connecting families and significant others of the person with addiction, identifying dysfunctional behaviours and teaching key skills such as communication and conflict resolution. These groups provide a safe space to share experiences and reduce social stigma.
As family therapists, we believe that intervening in the relational context improves the prognosis. The aim is therefore to provide families and significant others with guidelines that help improve the prognosis, advising and accompanying them throughout the process.
The “Mirades Mirall” therapeutic group is an ongoing, safe space with a programme based on a comprehensive, systemic approach, intended to help participants become effective agents of change. The groups are open and family members and significant others can attend regardless of their stage of change and of the intensity of care of the services they come from. The groups are dynamic and meet every two weeks.
