Therapeutic Day Centre"La Crisàlide"
La Crisàlide (The Chrysalis) is a day centre for people who are going through the process of overcoming an addiction. In operation since 1991, it carries out therapeutic, occupational and educational activities that support recovery from drug addiction and social and labour inclusion. For many years it was known as the Social and Labour Workshop, until in 2017 it was restructured and renamed, becoming the Reintegration Day Centre.
The main objective of this service is to complement the outpatient treatment of service users through manual activities. These serve as a vehicle for increasing the ability to face and solve problems without resorting to drug use, increasing tolerance to frustration and fostering greater self-esteem, patience and perseverance. All of this takes place in an inclusive and protected environment which, in addition to this personal work, allows social skills to be strengthened, preparing the person to return to an active life in society.
It is located in Barcelona and is run by a team of professionals with extensive experience in this field. Every day, activities are carried out with the aim of maintaining abstinence, preventing social marginalisation and exclusion, and encouraging positive habits regarding health and social relationships. Hand-crafted wood marquetry and art therapy are some of the activities carried out at the centre, as well as cultural outings.
It is currently funded by the Departament de Treball, Afers Socials i Famílies of the Generalitat de Catalunya, supplemented by some user fees.
Therapeutic Programme
It is a therapeutic space for people undergoing outpatient treatment to overcome dependence on alcohol or other drugs or addictions. It is also an educational space in which personal coping and problem-solving skills are strengthened, as well as learning to manage emotions.
The work is based on a manual activity (hand-crafted wood marquetry or art therapy) and on relational dynamics with the therapeutic team and with the group, which help to achieve therapeutic goals. The craft activity will be the pretext for bringing about visible changes in the way the person faces the world.
The main objectives pursued are the consolidation of abstinence, increased self-esteem, the development of personal and social skills and the recovery of pre-employment habits, where applicable. All of this, together with the therapeutic and emotional support of the professionals, helps to prepare the person for participatory, active and emotional integration into their personal and social environment.
The centre provides daily monitoring of participants’ progress, which allows immediate detection of relapses, making subsequent recovery easier. In addition, regular coordination with the referring centres allows a comprehensive approach to the problems of each service user, who is offered individualised care and support. The length of stay varies according to the needs and progress of each person.
